This vase sat on the hearth at my parent's house for along as I can remember. I have always assumed that it came from China, but the U.S. is awash with things that were made to look like they are from the far east. The vase is pretty straightforward but the handwork is quite detailed. If you have any ideas, let me know.

Looks very Japanese with three-clawed dragon and moriage white and orange tactile slip painting. The forum's serious Japanese collectors will know best, but I'd guess late Taisho Period (1912-25) through ensuing Showa (Hirohito) Period, which ended in 1989.

Best regards,

Bill H.

Hi,

What you have there looks to be Japanese, not Chinese, known as Satsuma porcelaine. Seeing the bottom and any marks present would be a help but it's most likely 20th century tourist or export ware.

Hope this helps,

Regards,
