The print is by Toyohara Kunichika and is titled "Beauty Kohana" from the series "Thirty-six Modern Restaurants" printed in 1878.

Stan

Seems that the last picture do not go with the two first pictures, sorry about that. One quistion, How can I tell if this is an original print or a fake one?? I have looked at the paper, seems older, and are not smooth. I have taken the back side of, and I can see that it is glued on a cardboard. That goes for both prints.

It is highly likely that these are originals. Both Chikanobu and Kunichika prints are not worth enough to make carving a new set of blocks and printing new prints profitable.

Stan

Thanks again Stan and Michael. Got them at an auction paid 80 USD, think that this is ok for the two prints.

They are quite faded from being hung on a wall and exposed to light making them of less interest to a collector. Note that all foliage is blue instead of green (yellow is a fugitive color). See the example below. Hang them on the wall and enjoy them.

Cheers,
Stan

The paper looks ok to me from the photos, but it's difficult to be absolutely sure without seeing the prints for real.
Regards
Michael
