Subject:Request help in identifying calligraphy and artist
Posted By: Roger Mon, Jul 20, 2020 IP: 2601:281:c202:b68a:e

Hi All,
Request your help in translating the signature and calligraphy on this painting. Initially, I thought this was a woodblock but it is not. I don't think it is a copy but hand-done. Regardless, I'd greatly appreciate your thoughts on the piece. Thank you!

中務 - Nakatsukasa
中務卿敦慶親王女 - Nakatsukasa Princess Atsuyoshi
母 伊勢御息所 - Her Mother Lady Ise
朱囗後圓囗間人也 - Born between Aka囗goen囗

Nakatsukasa Princess Atsuyoshi poet 912-991, granddaughter of Emperor Uda and the daughter of poet Lady Ise.

Poem, (Transcribed into modern kana)

うぐいすのこえなかりせば
雪きえぬやまざといかで
はるをしるし

Uguisu no koe nakariseba
yuki kienu yamazato ikade
haru wo shiru shi

If there wasn't a warbler's voice
how would we know the coming of spring
in the mountain village where the snow doesn't disappear

There is no signature.
It looks like a print.

With regards,
I.Nagy
