KHS,
梅開五福
Wishing you the five blessings of the plum blossoms
(The five petals of the plum blossom are the symbols of five blessings)

RHS,
佳子白頭
Wishing you beautiful old age

With regards,
I.Nagy

The inscriptions on the vase are auspicious blessings. The one shown at the left appears to me to read down as '扬开五福' (Yang kai wu fu), 'Start spreading the Five Blessings'. The one at the right side reads '佳子白頭' (Jia zi bai tou), 'Have a good old age'. Both of these expressions seem suitable for use on the occasion of an anniversary or new year's event. I've not come across a similar vase before but would guess its doesn't date much earlier than the mid-20th century.

Best regards,

Bill H.

Thank you both for you help.. I'd agree with the age of the vase it does'nt appear to be old still a lovely vase though.

One of these days I'm going to memorize this idiom and overcome my urge to read the cursive form of the first character as 扬 instead of 梅. :(
