Japanese, made in the first quarter of the 20th century for export. Although it is in the style of Namikawa Yasuyuki I do not believe that is was made by him or in his workshop. The quality is far below that of examples signed by or attributed to Namikawa.

Hi Robert
many thanks for your reply and great info,I cleaned the box after I bought it,the brass was very brown,
I suppose it is a matter of opinion whether it should have been left original.
so you would say it is from the Meiji period?
I am very happy with your opinion as Yasuyuki was one of the best and to say it is in his style is great.

I have had a suggestion that it is late 20th century and that it may be machine made, which I did not agree with.

Regards Guido.

Hi Robert
Again many thanks for your reply.
I have posted images of the box in the condition it was in when I bought it.

not sure if this will change any thing about your opinion.

Regards Guido.
