Subject:Really old but unusual chawan
Posted By: Michael S. Sat, May 23, 2020 IP: 2a02:8071:b5bf:9300:

Hi there again,

the most puzzling chawan I have in my collection is the seto-guro one you see below. I bought it from an antique shop in Kyoto and the trader was sure that it‘s at least early Edo period if not momoyama. I love it and it has a wonderful patina. But the puzzling thing is the missing foot rim. I don‘t have a clue why it is like this. Do early chawan may be don‘t necessarily have one? And there is also no signature. Does anybody have an answer for that?
