Subject:Vietnamese? or Korean bowl
Posted By: Sally Sun, May 10, 2020 IP: 90.255.53.87

Hi, this bowl is approximately 12"/30cm across. From what I can gather it looks to be Vietnamese, or possibly Korean. I have no idea how old it is but I would think it has some age. Any thoughts or opinions would be welcome.

Actually a Chinese dish, early 19th century 'kitchen Qing', per Anthony J. Allen's latest book, 'Allen's Antique Chinese Porcelain -- The Detection of Fakes'. The basket designs around the rim are an early example of a stamped-on motif. See the link for another example of such a piece.

Best regards,

Bill H.

Thanks Bill, That's interesting, and enlightening as ever. I remember similar ceramics being called 'provincial Chinese' back in the 80s and 90s, a term which seemed to cover quite a broad area.
