Posted By: Paul Kowalski Thu, May 07, 2020 IP: 222.154.51.133

Hi there, I’ve recently purchased this and was wondering if anybody would be able to help me identify who the artist is and what the subject is. As always any help is greatly appreciated! Cheers Paul.

Title,
先師孔子行教像 - Teaching Image of Master Confucius
唐吴道子書 - Painted by Wu Daozi of Tang
Seal,
吴道元印 - Seal of Wu Daoyuan (Original name)

The original of this work is based on the painting of Confucius by Wu Daozi (618-907) and was created with the advice from Confucian scholars, historians and descendants. The painting was preserved by having been copied on a stone engraving.

With regards,
I.Nagy

Hey thanks so much, very interesting. Just to clarify are you saying it’s a copy of the original by Wu Daozi, if so do you have any idea of how old it is and do you think it has much value? Thanks 🙏

It's a recent second-hand copy (copy of copy) from
the surviving stone engraving made from Wu Daozi's
original painting.

I.Nagy
