Subject:Information about Japanese small plate
Posted By: Alessandra Fri, Apr 24, 2020 IP: 2.43.25.177

I also have this small plate. About 13 cm wide and 11 cm tall.
I wonder about its curious shape. Someone told me it could be a part of a set of plates fitting in a tray. I am also curios about the rough aspect of the glazing at the bottom. Is it just low quality? Can someone date this object for me?

Thanks a lot in advance,

Alessandra

This is a Chinese condiment dish, one of what originally was a boxed set made for export circa the late 19th-early 20th century. See link for further information.

Best regards,

Hi Bill,

thank you very much, I should have imagined that the fact that I bought it in Japan didn't necessarily mean it was Japanese.
Following your hint I was able to find one with a very similar shape, see link.

Regards,

Alessandra
