Subject:Chinese Bronze Censer Mark #1 & Identification Help
Posted By: China Doll Sun, Mar 29, 2020 IP: 2600:1700:b392:4730: Hi. Very nice forum. Any help with identifying the meaning of the maker's mark. The etching surrounds the vessel. This object may have imperial connections. Any thoughts or input on this vessel would be most appreciated. It is 5 & 1/2" inches in width and 3 & 1/2" inches in height. There is a second bronze vessel with similar etchings that I shall also try and post in this forum. |

Posted By: China Doll Thu, Apr 02, 2020 Thank you for sharing your wisdom and experience in the responses for this bronze piece. I appreciate your time, effort and help. Is it possible that this could be a time-period bronze but etched at a later period? This is from the same collection of fine objects that are all a minimum of 50 years old. Thank you !! I have attached an image of the inside this bronze |

Posted By: Bill H Tue, Mar 31, 2020 I looked online and found a Chinese language forum excerpt dated August 2013, wherein another bronze censer marked "Seal of Wu Yizuo" (Wu yi zuo yin - 吳挹佐印) had been submitted for evaluation (link). If anything, it had an appearance of greater age that yours here, which (at least in the pictures) shows no great signs of age or wear from use, and under increased page magnification, seems to exhibit traces of modern machine tool use in its incised figural motif (see added photo detail below). |

Posted By: Bill H Tue, Mar 31, 2020 Seems I found the only Chinese website in the world that had picked the incorrect but similar "Yi/挹" instead of "Bang/邦" as the second character in this mark. I also have bad luck picking Lotto numbers. :( |
