Subject:Help identifying signature on Japanese carved metal plate

Hi,

I was wondering if anyone could help me read this signature. It's on the bottom of a small metal plate (only a couple of inches by a couple of inches) upon which is engraved a little bird.

If anyone also knew just what this was, I would be grateful.
