Subject:Request help identifying mark on Japanese Vase
Posted By: Roger Mon, Mar 02, 2020 IP: 2601:281:c202:b68a:7

Hi All,
I would greatly appreciate any help identifying the mark on the bottom of this vase. Is this Satsuma? Thanks much!

The mark reads: Shinto 神陶, which is a mark of the Shinto Kaisha (Kobe Porcelain Company), established in 1886.
According a document by the United States Bureau of Foreign Commerce from 1903, this company was in production during the late 19th and early 20th century.

The 1st Kanji is also the first Kanji of the city Kobe and "To" = pottery (porcelain).

Regards,
Martin.
