Subject:Painted signed Japanese erotic scroll
Posted By: Vicky Mon, Feb 24, 2020 IP: 2a02:c7d:da5e:300:d0

Any ideas about the text on the suitcase and sign on one of the panels on this scroll? Also does anyone recognise the signature and seal? The scroll is made up of 9 sections that depicts strange erotic scenes. I will add extra pictures if anyone is interested. Any information would be very welcome.

Inscriptions on panels,
舩 - Fune - Boat
中村屋 - Nakamuraya
なかむらや - Nakamuraya
Inscription on suitcase,
中村屋 - Nakamuraya

Nakamuraya: Fictitious name of a "yakatabune" boat operator
(In the Edo period yakatabune was a Japanese style wooden boat on which guests could have a party while sailing on the river. It was a lavish pastime one way or another among rich merchants and high ranking people)

I read the signature of artist on the screen,
狂一筆 - Kyō-ippitsu (Mad one-stroke) -Pseudonym
Seal,
百 - Hyaku (Hundred)
(Hokusai's 百 seal is different style)

I can't identify the painter.

With regards,
I.Nagy

As ever Nagy, I can't thank you enough. I should have added more pictures from the scroll but it really is quite rude. It is so incredibly interesting though. I hadn't come across this type of shunga before and it is the most beautiful, creative and strange type of erotica. Thanks again for the information.
