Subject:Okimono, help wanted
Posted By: Nikolaj Marks Wed, Feb 12, 2020 IP: 85.148.47.146

Dear art friends, My love for Asian art started just past Sunday when I have fallen completely in love with this 15 centimeter tall Okimono at an art fair in Belgium. Since the dealer was not able to give me much useful information I hope someone of you can help me to clear a few questions like:
- Who is the maker (I only can hope I haven't put the signature upside down),
- Where and when did he live?,
- What storie does this Okimono show?

Anything else to help me to understand this figurine is also most welcome. Thank you in advance for you appreciated help.

I don't know how much you paid for this antique. It is no surprise to me that he offered no further information etc.
Simply, it's modern resin and has only decorative value only.
If you paid a significant amount I would suggest returning it if you are able etc.

I already started to have some doubts about the authenticity, after looking at many original Okimono on the internet. The price I paid is the price that someone pays if you buy something without knowledge.
Yet I want to address the art dealer, because it is sold to me as an antique at an high end antiques fair. It could help a lot if I could show him a similar copy somewhere on the internet.
Of course this is a major disappointment, but I am impressed by the effort that was made to make a, for those wo don't know better, convincing fake.Even cracks and small damages have been made.
