Subject:Chinese or Japanese Bronze Sleeping Dog
Posted By: William Spencer Sat, Feb 01, 2020 IP: 2600:100f:b11a:b0d1:

This Bronze Dog Sculpture has absolutely captivated me since I first laid eyes on it sitting inconspicuously on a window seal located in the oldest homestead in Aloha about 10 years ago- its origins also remain a complete mystery to me to this day...
Stab in the dark- Late 19th - Early 20th Century Asian??? Ego checked- I am open to information if anyone is so kind as to enlighten me...

Can't help with the reading of the maker's mark in cursive but the object is a bunshin or paperweight. Probably 1920s or 30s.

Sorry, spelled 'bunchin' in romaji.

It is Japanese, marking reads,
文夫作 - Fumio-saku - Made by Fumio

Asakura Fumio 朝倉文夫 1883-1964
Modern Japanese sculptor, often referred to as the "Rodin of Japan".
