Subject:Antique Champleve and Bronze Vase

Hello. We have been told by an appraiser that this is a Ming Dynasty vase. I would appreciate input from the forum. Could it possibly be Qing Dynasty?

Judging by the style and some of the phonetic writing on the base, this is a Japanese vase and possibly a product of the early 20th century. Japanese champlevé vases of this type were made from the late Meiji into the Showa period (circa 1900-1930s), and production resumed after WW-II for awhile. Such vases often are found as lamp bases, as their bottoms usually are thin and lightly soldered in place, so were easily removed if not otherwise drilled for electrification.

See the link below for past discussion of another Japanese champlevé vase with ring handles like yours. Another link included in the thread with documentary information is repeated here for convenience:

Best regards,

Bill H.
