Subject:carved jade piece imitating a mirror with characters
Posted By: Jen Sun, Jan 26, 2020 IP: 24.6.8.11

Hi everyone,

I have this jade piece, and hoping if someone can help me on learning more about this. The piece mimics the look of the Chinese mirror, but I am a little stump on the subject matter. There is a mermaid and a depiction of what seems to be a representation of journey to the west characters. It is roughly around 2.75 inches in diameter.

I tried researching this, but haven't been able to find anything on it related to jade. I was hoping that maybe someone would know more about this subject, and/or how old this piece might be.

I have attached some pictures showing the front, back, and side.

Thank you for viewing, and any help would be appreciated!

Hi Jen,
Your mirror or plaque is in my opinion probably serpentine. I base this on the matte like finish, colour, fake russet markings and the ever so slight blotchy/cloudy effect at the rim.
I also believe it is modern and would have been sold as a sort of tourist type ware.
Decorative value only.
