Subject:Chikaramachi tea set
Posted By: Ray Mcleod Thu, Jan 09, 2020 IP: 110.44.115.215

I have a Chikaramachi tea set in the Thousand Faces design. The tea set is in the colours shown and with the backstamp shown in the attached photos. I wonder if anyone can help me date the set.

Cheers, Ray.

The name Chikaramachi has been an integral part of the history of Noritake China since 1896. Little documentation exists today, because nearly all the early records were lost when an incendiary bomb destroyed the home offices of Noritake on 19 March 1945.

The first Chikaramachi mark was registered in 1912. Chikaramachi marks with the crown and the wreath were used from 1928 to 1945.

The mark shown on your teapot is a stamped or printed mark: Dai Nippon 大日本 (Great Japan), which indicates (around) the 1930's.

Regards,
Martin.
