Subject:Japanese butsudan stand inscription
Posted By: Elora Wed, Jan 08, 2020 IP: 2a01:cb05:8362:5000:

Hi,

I'm curious as to if anyone can give me any information regarding this butsudan, more specifically the inscription on the box and its lid.

Sadly, I've never owned the statue that would once have stood on top but given the size of the stand, I can only assume it was a large one.

Thanks for your time,

Regards,

Inscription on the box and its lid,
御和算箱入 - Go-wasan hakoire - Go-wasan box-case
Go-wasan or Wasan is the name of the sacred songs that praise Buddha. The books containing these sacred songs are kept in lacquered "Go-wasan boxes", and the boxes are stored in box-cases. What you do have is just an empty box-case made of cedar wood.

With regards,
I.Nagy
