This is an example of what often is called a "Canton famille rose" pattern, although it may well have been produced at Jingdezhen, in Jiangxi Province. I can't tell for certain, and perhaps you can clarify, but it seems the glaze may have a light tint of celadon green to it, which was common on some "Canton" wares and others in the popular "Rose Medallion" patterns made circa the mid-nineteenth century.

The piece shown here is called a "shrimp dish", used for food service and held by the lotus-decorated extension called a "comb", shown at the top of the dish in the first photo. The presence of butterflies and other insects in the remaining motif of birds amidst garden flowers and fruiting branches was considered to be auspicious and indicative of a high quality porcelain service.

Here are some pictures of a Rose Medallion shrimp dish and other pieces in my own collection, which items date to about the 3rd quarter of the 19th century.

Best regards,

Bill H.
