Subject:Japanese print, acquired late 1940s (with images)
Posted By: Simon Mon, Oct 28, 2019 IP: 90.255.206.78

I believe that my father bought this in Nagasaki in the late 1940s. He was posted there by the British army to help reconstruct the telephone system after the war. There is another similar print (I assume they are prints rather than original works).
I have been told that it may contain coded references to the atomic bombings - eg the domes on top of the huts might refer to the Hiroshima Prefectural Industrial Promotion Hall.
Sorry if this is far-fetched speculation! Any ideas or information very gratefully received.

Signature and seal reads,
秋峰 - Shuhō (Autumn Peak)
There were quite a few painters with the same "Shuhō”art-name whose prints could have been on the market in the late 1940s. By the process of elimination I made the following order;
1, Takemura Shuhō 竹村秋峰 - 1882-1955
2, Ishida Shuhō 石田秋峰 Active in the 1920s
3, Tsujimura Shuhō 辻村秋峰 1873-

With regards,
I.Nagy
