Subject:Can I use acetone to clean replica Liangzhu Cong if nephrite?
Posted By: Jonathan Sat, Oct 19, 2019 IP: 2607:f2c0:e79a:801:1

Hi all,

I recently purchased a replica Cong that had been made into a table lamp.

The maker or previous owner used a brown paint to, what I assume, cover up the tell tale white tool markings from modern implements.i would like to remove this from the surface entirely. I find the design fascinating and frankly would rather it stand out more.

I plan on removing the 'table lamp' bonus feature, but I don't want to damage the stone surface in the cleaning process.

Would using nail polish remover / acetone be ok for this?

Ps.i don't even know if this is Jade/nephrite, but it is about 20lbs and 20" tall

It is stone, so try on an small inconspicuous spot to clean. do not use abrasives like sandpaper etc.
