Subject:Need help identifying what these cards are
Posted By: Roger Sun, Aug 25, 2019 IP: 2601:281:c202:b68a:4

Hi, need some help on figuring out what these cards are. Also, if you could translate some of the info on the signatures/marks. There is about 50 cards. Thank you!

Haiku poems are written on the cards in a very cursive style. The haikus are from different classical poets, like Tachibana Hokushi, Hattori Ransetsu etc. (Mid-Edo period)
While the cards are calligraphed and illustrated by the same artist whose name I can't decipher.

With regards,
I.Nagy

Thank you for helping me on this. Could you look at the attached photo. It's from a different person (I think). Cheers!

The late Clifton Karhu, an American artist and printmaker who lived for many years in Japan, created similar cards with Japanese proverbs, in Japanese and in English, illustrated with a similar free and friendly art treatment.
