Subject:Identification of an ancient Chinese seal
Posted By: Kefi Fri, Apr 26, 2019 IP: 41.231.233.235

Hi!

Can anyone tell me what is written on this Chinese seal and whether it is genuine or a modern copy.
Dimensions: 9 x 5.5 cm

Thanks

The face of the seal, which is back to front so could not have printed correctly, reads ChengHua nian zao 成化年造. Made in the reign of the Ming dynasty ChengHua emperor - which of course it wasn't.

I'm not quite sure of the meaning of the written colophon - Gong Ping Jiao Yi, Tian Li Liang Xin - 公平交易 天理良心. which seems to have something to fo with Fair Trade, and the conscience of Heaven's rule.

Modern - but not a copy.
