Subject:Ginger Jars
Posted By: Julie R. Wed, Apr 24, 2019 IP: 96.232.131.183

Hello,

Seeking some assistance with two marked ginger jars. Any assistance with regard to the marking or design would greatly be appreciated. They are from a relative who has recently passed on and I was informed the jars were purchased many years ago.

The "Hunting" decoration and apocryphal seal script base-mark of "Made during the Qianlong Reign of the Great Qing Dynasty" (Da Qing Qianlong Nian Zhi - 大清乾隆年製) resemble what's seen on products made in the 1970s-80s" by porcelain ornamentation factories in Macao.

see the embedded link below for a 2016 live auction result involving two other ceramics, including an almost identical ginger jar, which sold for a total of $100. The non-embedded link that follows indicates an earlier auction featuring a pair of these jars in the UK drew no bidders at all.
