Subject:Help identifying a small white and blue pot
Posted By: Sophie Tue, Feb 26, 2019 IP: 92.17.30.176

Hello,
I'm having some trouble identifying this pot. The reign mark is made up of 4 characters, and there is some writing on the side of the pot too. On the other side there is a person on a boat, with the moon/sun in the distance. Any info or translations would be greatly appreciated!
Thank you

This is either an opium pot, a lime pot (for betel chewers) or possibly a reproduction of one or the other. Here's a link to one up for sale on eBay.

I've collected some other opium antiques but have never bought anything like this piece. See the embedded link below to an early comment by Forum Meister Anthony Lee, which raises a possibility that your pot could have originally been a lime pot for betel chewers.

Best regards,

Bill H

Sophie, You have the bowl of a Vietnamese water pipe for smoking tobacco, a type no longer in use.
