Subject:Bronze vases, signed
Posted By: Sally Wed, Feb 20, 2019 IP: 79.76.18.113

Hi , this pair of vases are about 11 cm tall. Can anyone please translate the characters on the base and suggest an approximate age?
Thanks

Bottom mark,
宗甫 - Sōho
In Japanese this type of copper ware is called karagane (Tang copper). Alloy of copper and lead. It has a brown color and changes black as time passes.
On Japanese Yahoo sites there are a few dozen of Sōho marked copper articles available without more detailed reference to the maker itself. In some cases it is mentioned "Meiji period made" .

With regards,
I.Nagy
