Subject:antique bronze

I am looking for help in identifying this object.
It measures approx. 10cm x 10cm x 10cm.
The inside appears to be lined with clay? of some sort. I thought it may be an incense burner. The nostrils are open to allow it to breathe when the lid is closed. Very unusual object that came from a family collection of oriental items. Bronzes , ceramics etc. No makers marks anywhere on it. it is quite heavy and I am not sure if it is copper or bronze. Any ideas?
