Posted By: Jos poulissen Sat, Dec 29, 2018 IP: 84.28.154.28

Hello,

Can anyone help me with this marker? It is Japanese, but I can't find it on the internet.

Thanks in advance

Jos (netherlands)

Hallo Jos,

The mark looks like the character δΊ• in a circle: "I" in Japanese or "Jing" in Chinese, both meaning "well" in English ("Goed" in Dutch).
But since there are no additional pictures of the item itself, there is not more I can tell you.
Regards,
Martin.

Hi Martin, thanks for your reaction. I have added a picture of the item.

Can you tell more now?

Hi Jos,

It's Japanese Kutani export ware for Europe and the US. This pattern was made in great quantities and as you can see poorly decorated. Transfer printed and then colored in a fast and rough way to make much production in a short as possible time. Made by a small family workshop, often in commission. The mark is pronounced "I" (ie) as written earlier.
Regards,
Martin.
