Subject:A White Grade-A Nephrite Jade Seal - Is this an antique?
Posted By: Long Tran Tue, Dec 04, 2018 IP: 42.113.191.21

Hello,

I have a white Grade A Nephrite jade seal, and wonder that is it possible an antique?

In case of it is an modern one, could anyone tell me what is the value of a great carving like this?

Some skillfull jade carver told me that it is extraordinary to polish every inner detail of this seal. Is it true?

I'm very appreciated for any advice for this.

Well, with the incomplete image there is still enough to read "QianLong Year Made" 乹隆年製

You can see the tiny traces of the mechanical drill used to carve the face, so I would consider that this is probably a fairly recent manufacture.

I am not aware of any genuine QianLong seals with that message.

From my experience I have to declare that this one is not an antique. Sorry

I sent your pictures to some jade carvers I know in China, as others here have said and according to them the piece is new and the carving is average decorative although good quality stone it’s a new jade, possibly Russian jade and the stone is not very expensive. A guess on value $500 or less in the average shop in China.

The work in this picture from a friends studio in Suzhou, China this area is known for carving white jade. The gun and everything is natural untreated jade.
