Inscription,
芝山 - Shibayama
Marking,
芝山 - Shibayama

It is not an artist`s name, but a generic name for a kind of carved, shell inlayed lacquer ware. The technique was invented by a certain Onoki Senzō from Shibayama, Shimosō Province. Shibayama lacquer ware was exported in large quantities during the Meiji era.

With regards,
I.Nagy
