Subject:Satsuma?
Posted By: Cheryl B Mon, Oct 29, 2018 IP: 107.10.223.49

This egg is making me crazy. It's unmarked and heavy. There's a hole in the top that I think was there when it was made. It's heavy leaving me to believe it's pottery. Approx 5-1/2" tall. Does this look like Japanese Satsuma to anyone? Or just a knock off. Also, it's filthy and I'd love to clean it without ruining the decoration (it's over glaze). It almost looks like someone smoked two packs a day around it and had it in a kitchen where they fried a lot of food. I love it, but, cleaning it would make it even prettier.

This looks like it may be some of the Japanese-style crackleware that has been produced in China during recent times.

Best regards,

Bill H.

I totally agree with Bill H.
Chinese Satsuma-like, not very old, no antique.
