Posted By: Spartakos Sun, Oct 14, 2018 IP: 49.49.250.220

Dear forum members, could you please tell me if it is a figurine of some particular character or generic statue. And possible the makers name.
Thank you.

The signature reads 'Hidehisa saku' (秀尚作 - made by Hidehisa) I'm not entirely sure about the pronunciation of the name but it refers to a Japanese metalworker Shiroyama Hidehisa (城山秀尚). Found no further biographical data. Probably late Meiji to Taisho period (first quarter 21st century).

The figure holding a mallet and carrying a bag resembles at Daikokuten but it is not him.

Guy.

This is Japanese and I think this is of Daikoku who is considered to be the god of wealth, or of the household, particularly the kitchen. He is usually portrayed with a wide face and smile and he is often carrying a sack and holding a golden mallet called Uchide no kozuchi, otherwise known as the mallet of fortune. No idea on who the artist may be.

Dear Yurike thank you for the identification. Do you think a character from the photo below is also a Daikoku, it is a rather old looking figurine made of wood.
thank you.
