Subject:Japanese bronze vase
Posted By: M Hines Mon, Sep 24, 2018 IP: 2a00:23c4:1002:fa00:

Hello

I would like some help with the Japanese vase with pictures attached. It measures 33 cm high and is approx 25 cm wide at the rim. It has a Japanese mark to the base and I would appreciate it if someone could tell me the name of this mark and also if this style of vase has a Japanese name.

Regards

Anne

It is called a usubata and it is used in the Japanese art of flower arranging (ikebana). In the print below, the women are engaged in using the usubata to arrange flowers.

Cheers,
Stan
