Subject:Jizai Okinomo Dragon
Posted By: Michael Sun, Sep 23, 2018 IP: 97.92.255.213

Hello. My name is Michael, I'm a new poster and I reside near St. Louis, Missouri. I hope everyone is well.
I recently picked up the pictured object for a couple dollars at a thrift store, I thought it a unique object. I've since done a little research into the beautiful Japanese art of jizai okinomo. The dragon figurine I found is approx 24 inches long and is relatively heavy at about 350 grams. I believe it's composed of either bone or ivory. Definitely isn't resin. It's fully articulated and as you can see in the photos is unfortunately missing the feet. The etching on the scales is pretty intricate. I looked and couldn't find a signature or maker's marks anywhere.
Any comments as to perhaps when this was made or by whom or any other pertinent info would be wonderful. I love learning about such things and I thank you in advance for being willing to share your knowledge. Best regards,
Michael
