Subject:Tea Strainer makers mark
Posted By: Karen Bates Mon, Sep 17, 2018 IP: 69.76.241.157

Found this lovely little tea strainer (I think that's what it is). Any idea of maker, style, age? It seems values for them are all over the board. Thanks for your help.

Bottom marking reads,
さつま - Satsuma - Satsuma ware
I hope an expert on Satsuma ware will come up to comment.
With regards,
I.Nagy

Although I think I.Nagy is right with the mark Satsuma in Hiragana characters, this tea strainer looks more like Kutani than Satsuma.
Satsuma is earthenware and looking at the pictures this looks more like porcelain.
In my opinion this is probably Japanese export ware from (at the earliest) the 1930's.
Regards,
Martin.
