Subject:Chinese Watercolour on striped brown paper?
Posted By: Paul Dillon Wed, Sep 12, 2018 IP: 62.172.72.131

Hi, I bought a watercolour in a charity shop because I loved it but I am desperate to know a little more about it. It is painted on brown paper (May have just gone brown with age?) that has stripes in it that made me think it had been folded but I took it out of its frame and it definitely hasn't. I think the writing says 'Beautiful Place' or Beautiful State' and I guess the red block is the signature. On the back someone has written 'Mei-bung' which looks to be much later. This is actually German for My Exercise but I can't image that this is why it is there unless it is done by a german student copying a chinese painting? The paper really intrigues me. I have posted some pictures, one normal photo and one taken on a light box which shows the stripes much clearer, and a close up of the writing. Can anyone tell me anything about this picture please? Thank You

The signature and seal both say 美邦 MeiBang - the name of the artist
