Subject:Tokoname red ware, dragon and clouds pattern
Posted By: Michael S. Inglis Fri, Sep 07, 2018 IP: 69.222.65.133

Hello:

I have three umbrella stands, not matching but in the same pattern, that have different patinations. One was over cleaned (down to the terra cotta), another has never been cleaned (original patination overlaid by grease and dirt) and the third looks to be a fairly clean antique with just a patina of dust.

I have found absolutely nothing online about the patination process of the original pieces and was thrilled to find this site. Maybe someone here could help?

As they are going in the same room, potentially as lamp bases, I was hoping to get some ideas as to how they were originally patinated such that I could get them to match better.

Thanks in advance for any advice you might be able to provide!
