Subject:Inscription on mid century teapot and wooden box
Posted By: Mary Sat, Aug 25, 2018 IP: 2600:8801:8a01:2a00:

I hope someone can translate the inscription on a tea set and wooden box I just purchased. I was told it was from circa 1950's.
Thank you! Mary

The mark on the tea set reads: Satsuma 薩摩 Hiraoka 平岡 Sei 製 (made by Hiraoka in Satsuma).
I've seen more of these marks with the same red Kakihan (personal seal of the potter or peinter), see picture.
Date: could be 1950's perhaps even 1930's,
unfortunately you didn't post a picture of the tea set itself.
Regards,
Martin.

Irrelevant to the post, but I am very impressed with your seal collection library, it is more complete than anything i've seen on net so far. is it your personal project?
Thank you.
