Subject:Large Signed Cloisonne Japanese Vase Identification / Appraisal
Posted By: Z. Kopp Fri, Aug 10, 2018 IP: 155.143.156.171

Hi all!

I have recently acquired a pair of what I believe to be Japanese cloisonne vases. Each of them has the same signature on the base. They are approximately 40cm in height. Can anyone here tell me any more about them? Age, maker, desirability, etc?

Cheers!

Zac

This is a type of cloisonné on pottery called 'totai shippo" in Japan. It is difficult to find undamaged older examples like your vases, which appear to be circa the late Meiji Period (1868-1912). Here's a link to a smaller example on sale by a dealer at one of the better known online malls.

URL Title :Totai Shippo
