Subject:Japanese or Chinese screen painting
Posted By: MoMo Sat, Aug 04, 2018 IP: 89.205.138.111

Dear,

I bought a Chinese or Japanese screen four panel painting. It looks old, around 1900. Does anyone knows is this Chinese or Japanese? And maybe someone knows the painter.

I also do not know, is this a screen to separate rooms or a painting?

Thanks a lot,

Monique

Your folding screen is Chinese,
Signature and seal read alike,
子陵 - Ziling (Small mound) - Pseudonym
I could not find artist under this pseudonym neither in my books nor on the web.

Folding screen (Píngfeng - Chinese, Byōbu -Japanese) is a kind of furniture that acts to separate a space. It's name comes from the phrase "preventing the wind". It can be used for both practical and decorative purposes.

With regards,
I.Nagy

The painter of yaks and camels, Du Ziling, writes his name with quite different characters 杜滋齢
