Subject:Japanese tea set
Posted By: Adriano Mon, Jul 23, 2018 IP: 79.18.201.42

I have a tea set that I think is Kutani porcelain in moriage style.
The cups are very thin and they have a Geisha lithophane in the bottom.
The pieces have a bottom mark in Japanese that means Nippon.
I would like to have comments on style and period.

Thank you and best regards,
Adriano

I don't think this is Kutani, the colors are more like Satsuma style colors, although it is porcelain. Made for export to Europe or the USA.
A stamped Nippon mark and Geisha lithophane in the bottom of the cup means at the oldest from the 1930's, but in this case more likely 1960's, when these kind of tea sets were exported by the thousands. Another hint for the 1960's is that there is hardly any wear.
Regards,
Martin.

Thank you, Martin Michels.
The set is brand new, probably it is a wedding gift newer used and kept as decorative piece.

Best regards,
Adriano
