Subject:Japanese Bronze Vase
Posted By: Jack Thu, Jun 14, 2018 IP: 2.217.233.119

Hallo all.
This rather lovely vase is, I'm almost certain, bronze. It is beautifully decorated and although a little dark, really shines in the sunlight...as these pictures show. I'm curious about two things: what does the text on the base tell me about the maker/date etc? Is the circle a fault or does it represent the sun/moon in a different material...has anyone seen this before?
Many thanks.

Signed 'Jomi sei' (紹美製), the mark of Jomi Eisuke II (紹美栄祐 - 1839-1899) master craftsman from Kyoto who exhibited in Japan, USA, France and the UK during the 1880s-1900s.

Guy.

That's great Guy...thank you so much. You've given the vase an age and a history. I will look-up Jomi Eisuke's work.
