Subject:Chinese amphora vase with gilt enamel decoration and gilt bronze mounts
Posted By: Selby Cook Thu, May 24, 2018 IP: 2602:306:c4f2:cbe0:3

Any help in date and origin would be greatly appreciated. It is 25" tall and has a rather unusual multi-colored blue glaze. Many thanks for your thoughts.

Although the metal fittings reflect Asian themes, I believe this piece to be of European origins.

During the late 19th c., it was quite a common practice to emulate Japanese/Chinese motifs and glazes.

The gold enamel flower has a very Art Nouveau flare, and the flambe like glaze seems to have a slight iridescence to it, so without the benefit of seeing the base and foot rim of the amphora, my guess is from the late 19th c.
