Subject:Sheng de tang zhi marked vase

Hi, I believe this to be a republican period vase, but may be earlier? all comments welcome.

Vase measures 13-1/2" tall

The maker of your vase chose a calligraphic form of mark fairly close to that of the Daoguang era, when the hall was in its heyday as the favorite Summer Palace spot of the Emperor. However, its bright red tone lacks the rusty character of the iron pigment in use at that time. See the image below for a mark on a periodShendetang bowl.

The glaze on your vase also seems to meet the Republic period reputation for whiteness.

Best regards,

Bill H.
