I picked this up at an antique store today. My first thought was that the drawing looked Chinese. The style of it with the cobalt and gold reminded me of some Japanese Nippon pieces I've had. Can someone tell me what the mark says and who the maker is? My guess is late 19th century (Meiji) Japanese chocolate pot or creamer. The porcelain has a pretty old look to it, but I am never sure with these things. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

It is a pity that the characters has been partially scrubbed away.
In my opinion the characters on top would have been 九谷 = Kutani, but from right to left 谷九, with only a dot remaning of the "ku"character 九.
Under that on the left it starts with 金 (kana - kane - kin) and under that a character with 白 on top. The only names that came close, were Kaneizumi 金泉 or Kanashima 金島 (being the potter or decorator). However, I could not find anything about those 2.
The characters on the right are too much damaged to make any sense to me.

Thanks for the information. I later noticed that Kutani mark too after scrolling through gotheborg. I just couldn't find anything else that resembled the other parts of the mark so I guess it illegible. I also can't seem to find anything like it. The pictures show men talking and looking at or writing scriptures. Any idea what this scene is meant to depict. Most of these chocolate pots have a typical scene of a Geishi.
