Very hard to see from the dark photos. The figure could be Hanuman the Monkey king, and have something to do with part of the Ramayana legend, and the battle between Rama, supported by the monkey army, against the evil Ravana on the island of Lanka.

Better pictures tell the story. Hanuman fighting the Naga snake, a task set for him on his way to fight in the battle with Lanka.

Google Hanuman Naga for more images and story details.

Mike is spot on. It depicts a scene from the Hindu epic Ramayana, where monkey general Hanuman fights off the divine snake Naga, who is testing if he is strong enough to fulfill his task of rescuing the lovely Sita from the clutches of demon king Ravanna.
It is made of coromandel wood, probably in the 1960s. A few drops of oil will bring out the striking colours even more.
