Posted By: Christopher Christ Wed, Apr 04, 2018 IP: 217.7.126.82

Dear All, I have a heavy bronze elephant with markings I can not read. I hope that someone here in the forum can point me at the maker, period and date of its origin. Thanks a lot for your help. Christopher

Inscription,
厚義作 - Atsuyoshi-saku - Made by Atsuyoshi
Stamping,
まるき社制作 - Maruki-sha Seisaku - Manufactured
by Maruki Company
Miyabe Atsuyoshi, maker of sword fittings, active in Kyoto during the late Edo and early Meiji era.

Correction,
Meantime, after a short search on net I have
found that our Atsuyoshi (厚義)is not same with
Miyabe Atsuyoshi (宮部篤良) the famous craftman from Kyoto.
Maruki Company was a Tokyo based coppery, and
our Atsuyoshi was a designer or casting master working for them.(Early Meiji period)

With regards,
I.Nagy
