Posted By: Maria Sat, Mar 31, 2018 IP: 2a00:801:380:52c:895

Hi, I have this beautiful picture and wonders who the artist could be? It is in rather bad condition, and Im thinking of repairing it. Best regards/Maria

The artist is not Kunisada. If you provide a blowup of what is left of the signature in the lower left, we may be able to identify the artist.

Cheers,
Stan

Dear Stan, thank You for Your answer! I enclose a picture of the signature, but it is hard to read. The print are damaged and very thin and wrinkled. Maybe You could do a wild guess? Thank You so much for taking time helping me with this!
Best regards/Maria

Sorry, Maria. There is not much to work with.

Stylistically, it is from the same period as Kunisada (circa 1850). I wouldn't be surprised if it was one of Toyokuni's pupils.

I'll work on it and see what I can do.

Cheers,
Stan
