Subject:Question about a chinese polychrome xylographic print
Posted By: Luciano Fri, Mar 30, 2018 IP: 193.204.90.105

Hello,
at first I have thought it was an ukiyo-e from Japan but now I suppose that the print you may see in the attached picture is a watercoloured xylographic work from China.
Please, do you think I am right and a does someone know the red mark?
Thanks a lot and best regards,
Luciano

This is a Japanese woodblock print. The seal reads 省亭 Shōtei or Seitei
Name of artist: Watanabe Shōtei (Seitei) 渡辺省亭
1851-1918, Nihonga painter, was good at stylish flower and bird painting incorporating western style expression.( For further info pls ref. Wikipedia)

With regards,
I.Nagy

Hello Imre,
thank you so much for your kind and fully exhaustive answer.
Thanks to you, now I have known another japanese master. I apologize for my ignorance...
Best regards,
Luciano
